I have spent years gathering tools and machines and plans of things to make. I realized several years ago that when I finally phased out of fireworks there would be a huge hole in my life. Aside from traveling with my wife the next thing was wood working. I have promised the good folks at Dutch Harbor, AK 3 more years of J4 and NYE. Other than the Lemay car Museum annual Fund Raiser that is the end of it. As long as I can be a wood butcher I can get along without fireworks. But above all, I have to stay active. I have 2 sources of essentially free wood. One is the 70 ft tall by 70 ft wide Black Walnut tree in my back yard. It has been hit twice by lightning and is slowly dying. The trunks and main branches will produce black walnut planks worth their weight in silver. I have hundreds of feet of branches that will go into my lathe for things like candle sticks, salt and pepper shakers, bud vases with glass insert, lamps and light fixtures, custom walking sticks (Pricey) and countless other carved items. The other source that will supply wood for shelving, bookcases, tables, wall art, and countless other useful wood items making life better, is recycled wood from shipping pallets. I have built a "silo" for storing and drying pallet wood. I have about 50 pallets now that I can dismantle with a special tool I bought and have more to pick up. We will build a "Social Fireplace" to burn the scraps and unusable pieces. We live in a cul de sac with 11 houses and we own the street so the neighborhood is made up of nice folks who like to gather round a fire and enjoy good company. I will likely market thru Etsy and all items will be branded "Hand Crafted by Joe's Woods" I have ordered the branding iron. The exception may be some small "keepsake" boxes. Other then the brass hinges and clasp these boxes will be either natural or with the bark still on. Yes it is likely that I will have Bomber pricing on some items especially if I don't have to box and ship. Re: Bomber Football It is refreshing to hear of the success of the Bomber Football team. I wish them well. -J.
