Alumni Sandstorm ~ 11/20/17 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 5 Bombers sent stuff and heard about a Bomber death today: Jim HAMILTON ('63), Linda REINING ('64) David RIVERS ('65), Shirley COLLINGS ('66) Brad WEAR ('71) ************************************************************* ************************************************************* BOMBER BIRTHDAY Today: Mike McKEOWN ('60) BOMBER BIRTHDAY Today: Vernona CHAPPELLE ('64) BOMBER BIRTHDAY Today: Laurie FRASER ('79) BOMBER ANNIVERSARY Today: Ron SHELBY ('59) & Lorraine WARD ('63) BOMBER CALENDAR: Richland Bombers Calendar Click the event you want to know more about. ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: Jim HAMILTON ('63) So the Forever Young And Always Lovely Miss Nancy ('65) and I spent the weekend in Richland to attend the memorial service for and say goodbye to one of the Good Guys, one of the Really Good Guys, Al FISHBACK ('61-RIP). Sunday morning I walked the river and took a brief respite at Pook's ('63) bench. What I found was that there are more cigarette butts in front of his than any other, so it's getting plenty of use. "After Further Review", it was noted that most of these cigarette ends were filter tips, which completely goes against Pook's propensity for Pall Mall straights. He used to say he liked 'em "Naked", go figure. Nothing like picking tobacco off your tongue, as one aspires to join the Choir Eternal. Just sayin', but we do need to make a most soonest Police Call in the immediate area. -jimbeaux -Jim HAMILTON ('63) ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: Linda REINING ('64) Re: picture Maren posted [Mrs. Faust's 4th grade at Spalding) http://rhs63.tripod.com/63Spa4th-Foust.html I knew right away which ones were Maren, Nester WISE ('63) and Carol WILEY Wooley ('63)... loved the picture. We were all so cute back then. *grin* and, YES it would be GREAT if you were closer to have lunch/visit with the Spalding kids... I had Miss Jones for 4th grade. You were also a year behind us, Linda! Here you are in Miss Jones' 4th grade class at Spalding the following year: http://richlandbombers.1964.tripod.com/gs/64Spa4th-Jones.html -Maren] -Linda REINING ('64) ~ Kuna, ID ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: David RIVERS ('65) Re: just a good day I recall a TV show when I was in HS called "That Was The Week It Was"... or maybe "that was"... sometimes I feel that way if I've had a great week or a bad one... but most of all I try to live in the "now"... I know that sounds trite... it shore ain't easy and I can honestly say that it too many years of sobriety before I came even close to making it a point to concentrate on doing just that... it doesn't mean I can't fondly or not so fondly recall the past or plan for the future... and for a kid who spends so much time on old cars, listening to old music it may even sound silly. Today I got to speak to two Bombers on the phone plus my best buddy in Vietnam... each one just made my day... when I think of the B-day Bomber I recall him from the past... I've never heard from him since my Spalding days, but I recall how in Awe I was with him as a kid... one of his pals called today and we had fun reminiscing the old days... I always look forward to talking to my good friend, Jack GARDINER ('61) so today was a fun time... He called to tell me about Al FISHBACK's ('61-RIP) funeral and all the kids he saw there... he said it was a very large bunch... Terry DAVIS ('65) called to try out a new dialect on me... he was great... I also spent time helping my daughter get ready for an appraisal on her house for a sale... little silly stuff that takes just forever to accomplish. I felt good to be a real dad instead of whatever I was the first 12 years of her life... She never fails to thank me for dropping whatever I am doing and running right over... she never says "I need it now", but ya know... I need it now... sometimes she embarrasses me with her gratitude... I just say "I'm yer Dad"... On another note... it was great to hear from Number 32 ('63) in the Sandstorm this morning... I have had a green and gold Bomber b-ball I got from Mary Lou WATKINS ('63) (she won it at R2K2) for Jim since 2010, but have never been in a position to give it to him... I guess mail would be the easiest way... it won't fit in my suitcase and he isn't in Richland when I go... hmmmmmm this sounds like rambling to me... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mike McKEOWN ('60) on your special day, November 20, 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -David RIVERS ('65) ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: Shirley COLLINGS Haskins ('66) Re: RHS Football ~ 11/19/17 Tri-City Herald "Big plays pay dividends for Bombers in quarterfinal win" Congratulations to the Richland Bombers who beat Gonzaga Prep in the Class 4A quarterfinals by a score of 28-21 on Saturday in Spokane. "The Bombers (12-0) move on to the semifinals for the third consecutive season. They will face Central Valley (10-1), a 41-0 winner Saturday over Skyline. I believe the game will be played at 1pm on Saturday, November 25, at Edgar Brown in Pasco. Go, Bombers! -Shirley COLLINGS Haskins ('66) ~ Richland ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: Brad WEAR ('71) Re: Texas Hunters for Heroes, Medal of Honor I was fortunate to spend the weekend with Texas Hunters for Heroes, a group dedicated taking wounded warriors hunting, or at least into the field to observe. We hunted on one of the family ranches and stayed in the family lake house. It was an interesting diverse group, ranging from Robert Patterson, ret. USArmy, Medal of Honor recipient, to Jesse Roberts, retired Dallas Cowboy/Seattle Seahawk. Several of the men had multiple Purple Hearts, and unfortunately there were two Gold Star family members* as well. *[https://www.army.mil/goldstar/ -Maren] The weather didn't cooperate, way to warm, windy, and dry. Overall the event was a success, where we enjoyed great food, vast quantities of good liquor, and above all great camaraderie. Medal of Honor recipient Robert Patterson, and Brad Wear '71. The crew! A mix of Marines, Army Special Forces, Rangers, and Delta Force members. http://AlumniSandstorm.com/Xtra/Wea/171120-Hunters_Heroes.jpg -Brad WEAR ('71) ~ in unseasonably warm Plano, TX Sent from my iPhone ************************************************************* ********************** HEARD ABOUT ************************** ************************************************************* Heard about this Bomber death today: Duane NEITZEL ('64wb-RIP) ~ 2/23/46 - 11/16/17 ************************************************************* ************************************************************* That's it for today.
