(11/22/17) Fabulous day you decided to do this between the two of you. You must have been a very special friend for her. I have to say, aside, that I found your poems even better than hers! The last poem you decided to slip in to her has had me chuckling all day and that helps a lot with a precious husband of 65 years of marriage fighting multiple myeloma and my fighting macular degeneration and glaucoma -- having chuckles all day helps!!!! Bless you! Happy Thanksgiving to all Bombers!! With our world in the condition it is, with politics in the condition they are -- please note what is the most important to us all on this day of Thanksgiving -- give those near and dear to you and extra hug realize the importance of family, let them know how much you love and appreciate them and how much they mean to you!!!! Bless all of you, -Pat UPSON Tervooren ('49), A Cougar alum!!!!!! ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: Marilyn "Em" DeVINE ('52) To: all Bombers Sending sincere Happy Thanksgiving greetings and wishing all good things in the coming year. -Marilyn "Em" DeVINE ('52) ~ in (yay, we've reached 15°) Anchorage, Alaska where we will have pumpkin Pie for breakfast with family before they take off to their sundry celebrations. ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: Bob Carlson, aka Mike CLOWES ('54) Cougs, Dawgs, Beavs 'n' ducks all getting' together this weekend for mayhem. In Washington state they call it an Apple Cup. Down here in Oreygun they calls it a Civil War 'cuz after the first one way back in ought'n' frozen over the fans of both teams did actual battle on the field after the final gun Didn't play another game for at least two years. Although it is for some of the marbles, the Iron Bowl is mere child's play compared to that. But, today is Thanksgiving. Please don't over indulge in foodstuffs, and watch out for the dark meat from the turkey; it'll put ya ta sleep. Today also marks a milestone in the lives of two fellow classmates. They are friends, and I guess it is because we don't see one another all that often. Anyway, on this date in history, way back then they got married. We won't discuss the circumstances or reason for in polite company. A "Happy Anniversary!" to Jim MEFFORD and Jeanette DUNCAN Mefford (both '54). I suppose Granny's Buffet is a reasonable alternative to cooking dinner at home. I do not think Taco Time is. So watch it; she deserves better. -Bob Carlson, aka Mike CLOWES ('54) ~ Mount Angel, OR where the turkeys are probably very soggy ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: Diane AVEDOVECH ('56) To: Jim "Pitts" ARMSTRONG ('63) CLONORCHIS SINENSIS is a common liver fluke in Asian waters that encyst in fresh water fish and then infect humans when uncooked or partially cooked fish are eaten. I remember studying this parasite in Parasitology years ago. It has a life cycle that requires first infecting fresh water snails and then as a tailed cercariae they encyst in the fish. I don't know if this is the parasite they are talking about that veterans from Viet Nam are infected with, but it seems very likely. I suspect once they encyst in the liver that there may be very little they can do to expel these parasites unfortunately. I hope the V.A. can help one way or another. The technology has passed me by a long time ago. -Diane AVEDOVECH ('56) ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: Jim "Pitts" ARMSTRONG ('63) Re: Central WA. Wildcats Let's not forget that the Wildcats are undefeated and are in the playoffs for the NCAA Div. II championship. Go Cats! -Jim "Pitts" ARMSTRONG ('63) ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: David RIVERS ('65) Re: Happy Thanksgiving Turkey Day! Oh wait... prolly not a good way to start a Birthday Post... I gotta call the other day from Jackson KEENEY ('65), which is not unusual in and of itself, in fact it's pretty normal... but Jack was all excited, having spent some time talking to the B-day Bomber... Jack went on and on about the positions they shared in two different sports, which went right over my head tho they both played for the Bombers... I know that Jimbeaux HAMILTON ('63) holds the b-day Bomber in very high esteem and during a very serious illness several years ago got a call every morning from this guy to see how Jim was doing... now that's friendship... for whatever reason, I never got to know this guy well, but I always give him a yell and a wave when I see him... HAPPY BIRTHDAY Terry JONES ('64) on your special day, November 23, 2017 and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -David RIVERS ('65) ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: Pam EHINGER (Blue Ribbon Class of '67) Happy Birthday! to Dawn BELL ('67) Jo CLARK ('67) on 11/22! Hope you both had a Great Day!! Bombers Rule -Pam EHINGER Kindl (Blue Ribbon Class of '67) ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: Mike FRANCO ('70) Happy birthday to Brad WEAR ('71) and Brent CHRISTI ('71) on 11/22... I think you guys passed me up and are now older than I am. Please confirm. Heading south for some dry and warm stuff. I hope the Cougs actually show up this year and make the game a game... actually if they plan on beating the Dawgs anytime soon it better be this season. Thanksgiving is the best of all holidays (my view) as every person I know we all gets together with friends and family. By everyone I mean regardless of religion, background, etc. It is also a good time to take a minute and think about our most beloved people who are not with us. I NEVER think of my best pal, George DANA ('70-RIP) without finding a big smile on my face. Thanksgiving tip: give politics a rest, during your meal, talk about sports, the weather, dumbest things you did in high school (that will keep you busy!), favorite movies, anything but politics. Everyone have a great holiday, good games, go Bombers... of course go Dawgs! -Mike FRANCO ('70) ************************************************************* ************************************************************* >>From: Gary TURNER ('71) To: Ray STEIN ('64) Thanks... definitely a holiday classic that should be reprinted each year! To: Brad WEAR ('71) A belated Happy Birthday (11/22) and thanks for correcting my FRANCO ('70) related error... I assumed from a previous post that he was a Husky... didn't realize he was a War Eagle who identified as a Husky, a very disturbing psychological condition. Sorry, Mike... That calls for a reprise of an old joke... What do Cougar fans and Husky fans have in common? Neither attended UW! Rimshot and GO COOOOOOGS -Gary TURNER ('71) ************************************************************* ************************************************************* That's it for today. Please send more. *************************************************************
