Re: Bill Dunton (Former Carmichael teacher)

I was never fortunate enough to have Bill or his wife, Lynn
(RIP) as teachers, but I was VERY fortunate to have them as
neighbors and close family friends. Bill and Lynn moved to CA
just as I was entering Carmichael in '58... I took choir and
always told Bill he was very lucky to have moved away by then,
cause I can't "carry a tune in a bucket" so his ears weren't
assaulted by my "singing". When I moved to CA, years later, I
was lucky to, once again, become close to them, in fact, both
my daughters grew up calling them, "Uncle Bill and Aunt Lynn".
Bill took his same love of teaching to La Habra High School
(CA) and continued putting on "Scotscapades"... Lynn would
design the sets... Bill even cajoled "the jocks" to take part
in whatever skits he laid out for them. One year, they did
"South Pacific"... "the jocks" were "the hit" of production,
when they donned hula skirts and coconut bras and sang and
danced. They were both very involved in the lives of their
students.. I agree with Jim McKEOWN ('53)... I think their
young age when they started working with teens, was a great
asset... they never seemed to forget what it was like to be a
teenager, with all those raging hormones.
