Re: Uncle Burt ('59)

Today I was helping my daughter sell/buy and move from one
home to another... well I just did the physical stuff... and
drove... it just made me more sure I never wanna move agin...
ughhhhhhhh... but while doing the driving I was listening to
'50s on 5... I was reminded of Lynn BRYSON's ('57-RIP) love
of the music of the Statues and the Clovers... he instilled
that in me... he would play alternative versions of "Blue
Velvet"... it took me a while but I came to have a strong
preference for the Clovers' version... anyway today I heard
the Statues do a Christmas song... it will not be one of my
favorites... shore don't stand up to the Drifters' "White
Christmas" that's fer sher... that may be my favorite version
of White Christmas... then a few records later, they played
the Clovers' "Devil or Angel" and I decided I must be a dyed
inna wool Clovers fan... It is my humble opinion, that some
of the best rock 'n' roll ever performed came outa the '50s
and '60s... now, that does not mean I don't appreciate some
of the talent that came later... I cannot even discuss later
years rationally because there is almost no rhyme or reason
as to my taste... (or lack thereof)... I think there may be a
fundamental difference in that, as Jimmy Swaggart rightly
pointed out oh so many years ago... "it's the beat, the beat,
the beat"... much of the later music as far more complicated
and enjoyable in a less "hop skip and a jump, bang bang
bang" way as Carl BEYERS ('65) dad once called our music...
ah well... maybe some day I'll be better able to splane...
but fer now HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Burt PIERARD ('59) on your
special day, December 12, 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
