Re: Holidays are here

We have officially kicked off the holidays at the Glenn house
as of yesterday when we celebrated son Danny GLENN ('00) 38th
birthday. We always waited till his birthday was over so it
didn't get lost in Christmas. Hubby has most of the lights up
outside and I am starting on the inside this weekend but
first Danny's sons, ages 13 and 6 will join me at John Dam
Plaza for the lighting of the big trees and light show put on
by City of Richland, then we will scurry across GWWay to
Howard Amon (Riverside as we remember it) Park for the
lighted Boat Parade. I'm hoping the fog lifts so we can see
them better this year. The boys want a trip to Shari's for
cocoa and hotcakes for dinner so will fill their tummies and
they will spend the night. Getting up bright and early to
begin baking about 4 different types of cookies is on the
agenda for tomorrow. Next weekend 12-15 of the cousins - my
littles and sis Nancy BEARDSLEY Lucke's ('65) bigger littles
will gather to decorate said cookies at my house. I usually
am still finding sprinkles in the carpet in March... but they
have fun. I have had kids decorating sugar cookies at my
house for almost 50 years... such a fun family tradition and
at least two or three start asking in October what day we
decorate cookies. This picture was taken last year...

and that wasn't all of them. I love it!!!!! and yes.. that's
a lot of sugar!

I hope your holiday season is filled to the brim with family
and fun and precious memories. May the blessings of the
season pour into your hearts and homes.

RE: Maren's Tumble

Hope all the sore spots are not so sore today and the bruises
are fading.

 [AMAZING! NO bruises! -Maren]

Re: It's a Wonderful Life

I'm hearing great things about the production and looking
forward to catching it before the run is over.

Re: "a date that will live in infamy"

I was in the Navy aboard the heavy cruiser USS Saint Paul
starting my first WestPac cruise (Western Pacific--i.e.
Vietnam) we arrived at Pearl Harbor March 27, 1969. How do
I know that date? Because late at night I was on watch in
radio and saw a message that said that Dwight Eisenhower
was "doing better," already knew he was in the hospital.
The next morning it was announced that he had died. All I
had to do was look up that date and subtract one.

For the three days we were there Jap Zeros were flying
around, seems like most of the day. There were nine planes,
three groups of three. flying in a big circle and diving on
what I was told was a mock-up of a battleship. They were
filming the movie "Tora! Tora! Tora!" Across from us was
moored an old destroyer escort, and I wondered if it was
going to play the part of the USS Ward. Guess I should have
taken a picture and compared it to the movie. I had long
known that the first shots fired at Pearl Harbor were not
by Japan, but by the United States, but in those days never
bothered to remember the ship's name.

The History Guy has a YouTube video about the USS Ward I
found quite interesting, especially what happened to the
Ward exactly three years later.

Re: Inspiration personified

Today, December 7th, 2019, a date which will be celebrated in
all of Bomberdom! Not to play down his team mate who shares
this date of birth, but I must say that I look up to this guy
in so many ways. Always as that Bomber kissing the Bomb at R2K:
 http://allreunions99352.tripod.com/ss/24-00001.htm
as the player on the floor leading Bombers to victory over
victory; as the Marine Corps Captain who returned from war.
He is one of those who understands gratitude even in the
hardest of times. In that way as in many others he is my
hero and an inspiration to us all. I am in such awe of
this man and am proud to call him friend. Happy Birthday
Jim HOUSE ('63; #32) and Jerry SPEARS ('64) on this wonderful
Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
