******************************************** Additional Text for the 08/06/04 Alumni Sandstorm ******************************************** >>From: Jan Bollinger Persons ('60) Yesterday a second Bomber vented at length about certain posters and then announced she would no longer read the Sandstorm--apparently believing that her absence from the readership would squelch any rebuttals. That seems kind of like a hit-and-run or sniper approach. While the author may or may not read today's issue, that only reduces the audience by one, and I think it is fair to point out that the responses she lamented yesterday are actually defensive moves by those who were originally denigrated and demeaned in a first attack. Let's remember that it all began with an ANONYMOUS message telling George Swan, "Enough!" Mr./Ms. Anonymous didn't want to hear any more from George, even though many others obviously did! Then followed the poster who slung some very personal arrows of criticism at George and other writers because she didn't approve of the humor or subject matter of their entries. And, like yesterday's poster, she swore to take her marbles and go home. So this whole controversy began with those who would censor others. What has followed is a rather predictable response to such an attempt. A few on the one side are yelling, "Be quiet!" and many on the other side are saying, "Not on your life!" I feel quite comfortable in the camp of the latter. Jan Bollinger Persons ('60) ********************************************
