Re: Hammers

I don't get into my laptop very often anymore. Today I enjoyed Dennis
HAMMER's ('64) entry about building a hammer back in January. Good job,
young man!

Re: Condolendes

Sincere sympathy to Marie RUPPERT Hartman ('63) on the passing of her
brother. Gene ('65-RIP). Nice that his daughter could be with him.

Re: Othr stuff

I'm enjoying playing Bridge 3 days a week. Monday and Wednesday at
Richland Community Center (at 8:30 in the morning!) and Keewayden
Community Center in Kennewick at 12:30 on Wednesdays. The challenge is
good for my brain and such nice people to associate with! I'm re-learning
the game after too many years away from it. Also play Pinochle with
friends on Monday afternoons (West Richland Community Center) and Friday
evenings at the Richland Community Center. Terry SHEGRUD ('54, '55, '56)
and I host 8 friends to play 2 tables of "5-handed" here at this house
every Thursday afternoon.

Terry and I joined Planet Fitness and have been going nearly every day. We
give ourselves good workouts without over doing it. One day I set the
"cardiac" choice on the treadmill, entered my age and weight, and when my
heart rate got over 110, the machine slowed down.

That's it for this time. Best regards to each and all,

Welcome to North Carolina, where it snows quite a lot like last week (we
are now dug out) and the big black bears roam freely. I do not recall
meeting you in Richland, but that was a long time ago and I hightailed it
out of town a few months after graduation in 1952 and eventually landed up
teaching in Indiana. I retired to Western North Carolina 15 years ago
because our son lives here. My dad lived in Richland until his death in
1965 and my mother then moved away, first to California and then back to
Indiana to be with us until her death in 1998. I occasionally visited
Richland and then much more often after my brother BURT ('59) retired from
Seattle and bought the old family H house on Torbett Street, where he now
lives today. I thought you would find this to be of interest. Cheers!

Off to a late start, cuz it's happening today so I must wish Sue FARELY
('54) a "Happy Birthday!" before we burn too much more daylight.

SENT: 1/26/22

Just wanna take a moment to wish ML ('63) a "Happy Birthday!"

SENT: 1/30/22

I am reminded by the Bomber calendar that it is time to wish fellow
Thespian Gene BARFUSS ('53) a "Happy Birthday!" So, you made it this far.

Certainly looks like she beat the groundhog in discovering her shadow. A
"Happy Birthday!" to Carol Tyner ("52).

Re: Hi-Spot

Thanks to my good friend Grover SHEGRUD ('56) and Stephanie DAWSON Janicek
('60) for setting my mind straight. Now I know it was the Kennewick Social
Club that I remembered. This has bothered me from time to time over the
years, especially when the subject of the Hi-Spot came up in the
sandstorm. Looking at the Hi-Spot pictures, and what I remembered, just
didn't add up.

Anyway, I can now sleep at night... *Grin*

Re: Some Reunion

I don't remember the year, but did make it to one of the '56 reunions.
There I ran into an old school mate Lois WEYERTS Harrold ('56). For
whatever reason, I didn't make the dinner gathering and she was the only
one I saw that I actually knew. Anyway, we chatted a bit and I put my arm
around her shoulders. I asked her what she would have done had I put my
arm around her back in the 8th grade. Without hesitating she said.."I
would've slapped ya"...

Ahhhhh the good old days...

Again thank you, Maren, without you all of these memories would be locked
only in the minds that lived them.

Re: Congrats to TDK

I see (via Facebook) that your recent movie, "Best Years Gone" won the
Best Picture category in the Maverick Movie Awards 2021. CONGRATULATIONS!
That must be very gratifying seeing your work rewarded. Kudos to you and
everyone involved in the film's production. Looking forward to seeing it!

Club 40 cancelled? That's a shame, over some kind of dispute? Seems like
something could be worked out.

Re: Blood Drive

To: All Bombers

While going over some old photos I ran across a few of a Village blood
drive. We still have them today the major difference is advertising,
banners on bus bumpers, pole wraps, contractor involvement (redacted).
Blood drives still happen just not with the fanfare from decades ago. I
remember going to the 200 Area fire station bay where tables were set up,
nurses in white, men and women on those tables with bottles hanging below
them and those tasty cookies and juice for afterwards. That was 1983 we
were getting the PUREX Lab ready for startup to support the process. There
were a number of us who went that day I can only remember two Gary Hulse
and Al Fishback. Now Al knew Gary was a bit squemish so he made sure to be
on the table next to him. "Hey Gary watch this!" Al starts pumping his
hand really fast and the blood just shoots into the bag! I thought Gary
was going to pass out on that table! Hanford doesn't do much of that
today, nothing in the budget for that waste of tax payer dollars. We can
thank a Seattle based anti-nuke org for that. Times they are a changing.
Here are those photos from so long ago, pretty sure someone will recognize
a relative or two.
