I surely enjoy your entries about your early remembrances of Richland and
the Tri-Cities. I'm sure I had known (and forgotten) that you were born in
Pasco, lo those many years ago!! Haha--yes, Dick, we are among the oldies.
Lucky us! Surely do miss seeing you and Ruth at our defuncted "Class of
'52" Lunches at the Queensgate Sterlings. Maybe we should try those again
when brother Terry gets back from Mexico next month?

To: Helen CROSS Kirk ('62)

Gorgeous photograph of sunset from your deck! Thank you for sharing.

to: Terry DAVIS Knox ('65)

We'll go to the Richland Player's this afternoon. I/we left at the
Intermission at Hanford High School's latest presentation and did the same
at one by the Richland Players many years ago. Hopefully this one will
grab us and we'll get to stay for the whole thing.

Tomorrow the Painters will come and do the outside of the house. Saturday,
we'll get new Laminate on the kitchen counters, the "island" and the
bathroom counter. I hope I like both of these changes as much as I think I
will.

Best regards to each and all,
-Marilyn "Em" DeVINE ('52) ~ in sunny (today) Richland with only a breeze!
Great for walking the dog before we go see "The Prude's Progress".

Holy cow! I was bowled over by a three entry Sandstorm that I almost
forget this.

Fellow classmate Janice BOOTH ('54) is celebrating her 21st birthday
today. Let's all wish her a "Happy Birthday!" and trust she won't be
carded again (for a while).

p.s. Maren if you are down-sizing to a mobile/manufactured home, I would
strongly recommend you move it to someplace that doesn't have tornados.

Re: interesting days

I got up before dawn on Monday [4/11/22] and took my dog outside for her
morning business. I went inside and got my coffee and watched the news.
After it was daylight I opened the blinds and looked outside. I then went
and looked at the calendar and it was really April and not December and
the white stuff was really snowing. It is now snowing today.

Re: health problems

I just got home from a week in the hospital after having my gallbladder
removed. All the doctors said that it was very large. Home now and more
comfortable.

Re: "WHAT WE'VE GOT HERE IS FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE"

Most Memories are triggered by association. Something that's said brings
back memories of things you hadn't thought about in years. It's a good
feeling.

I believe what we used to read each morning in the Sandstorm would trigger
these old memories and prompt someone else to write in with a similar
memory or event that happened to them. This chain of ideas would continue
until it slowly died out. After a short lull a new idea or memory would
pop up and off we'd go again in another direction.

Out of sight-out of mind.

It was mentioned awhile back that there's a potential the Sandstorm will
die a slow death if things continue as they are. I don't believe this. I
think the Sandstorm is destined for a very rapid death if things continue
as they are... .. sad. It was a great run!

I thought Pete BEAULIEU ('62) might enjoy this bit of Richland history
concerning Dr Harville and his friendly attractive wife,Gold Coast
royalty. He did indeed return to Richland after freshening up and
practiced until his death in 1984.

Re: Which season is it?

Cold today and more rain is coming. Had been neer 70 so put out the
hummingbird feeder. Also had to mow for the first time this season --
weeds -- very big and healthy looking.

Been in the jury pool since early March. Have to call in nearly every day
to see if my part of the alphabet is to come in. Actually served on a jury
one day. Interesting. Something to experience. Had to go in another day,
but missed being picked (thank goodness as it was a case I didn't want to
sit on). They nearly ran out of potential jurors before they settled on 12
people plus an alternate.

Sure would like to see more write in as I miss the SS in my inbox. Like to
read it while eating my cereal.

Hi Maren & Bomber Alumni.

Well this will simply not do. Seeing the Sandstorm die a slow death, that
is.....so here I am.

Still in Saipan. Listened to a lady yesterday explain to others outside
the circle I was in (NA Int'l), why they call us Bombers "Bombers" !!! She
got it mostly right. Whereupon there began a Q&A about Tinian airfields,
the Battle of Saipan, WWII, etc. Her parents were from the displaced White
Bluffs, and is a Cougar grad.

Went to my wife's uncle's 90th birthday celebration yesterday. What a man
is David M. Sablan. His dad, mom, him and his seven brothers and sisters
and 45 others were hiding in a cave for about a week while U.S. Navy ships
bombarded the Marpi cliffs during Operation Forager in 1944. They had been
spotted from the ships while gathering coconuts to subsist. Marines were
sent in to capture the thought to be Japanese soldiers. Just when one of
the Marines pulled a pin on a grenade to toss in the cave a baby cried out
from deep in the cave. A Marine yelled, "surrender". David's dad was the
only one of those in the cave who spoke English. He raised his arms and
yelled, "I surrender". Without the baby crying 58 Chamorros would not have
survived. The Marine's name was Sullivan.

Here's picture from Uncle David's birthday party. Dagnab it, the videos of
dancing island girls are too big to send.

Long live the Bombers, and long live the Sandstorm.
