To Pete BEAULIEU ('62)

Gosh, Pete, I think your Christmas window was great. I don't see how
anyone would be offended by it. (But what do I know, right?)

I hope all of you Richland Bombers out there are doing well and living
happy, contented lives. We are doing fine. I'm a Great-GREAT Grandma now!
Haven't seen the child yet, or the parents for a long time, but looking
forward to that later this summer. We are staying busy with card games and
yard work. I play Bridge 3 times a week, we both play Pinochle 3 or 4
times a week. Plus thinning out some of the stuff here that we don't
*really* need! Richland Senior Assoc is having a gigantic yard sale on the
26th and 27th of this month. 1325 Kimball Ave, 8 am to 2 pm. Drop by and
contribute some bucks to the RSA and get something in return!

For anyone who wants to know, Patti COLE Pierce ('52), is living in the
Assisted Living place on McMurrey and Pike. Room 212. She was thrilled by
the visits from my brother, Terry ('52) and me and I'm sure she would love
to have other Bombers visit, too.

Terry SHEGRUD's (he says classes of '53, '54 and '55) younger brother
Grover ('56) will be here for Club 40!! We saw he and his wife, Martha,
last month when we were visiting my Grandson's place in Maryland. They
drove up from North Carolina.

I guess that's pretty much it for this time.

Re: To Hell in A Hand basket!

I have to agree with Pete BEAULIEU ('62)!!! The USA in particular and
the world in general are on a very slippery slope, being sabotaged at
every turn by special interest pouring snake oil to improve the ride! With
so called "woke culture" (not sure what that means) to burnt culture! Who
can say it better< Florida or Texas. as they both are creating their own
light from the burning of books. to inventing their own delusion of
rectifying wrongs to their personal Gods to destroying Natural climate to
fouling the air we breathe. Alas little do we notice, even less will it be
remembered. Just as all the warnings have thus been cast aside and
ridiculed.

-Rex HUNT ('53wb) ~ from lovely and well warmed Hanford, Calif. (giving
Hanford, Washington a race for the heat!

Here's a "Happy Birthday!" shout out to DiAnn SCHUSTER and Ginny WEYERTS
(both :54). Have a good time and don't worry too much about being carded.

A while back someone listed some pithy sentiments about old age by well
know people, but they missed one:

Guess this is what you could call a "Good News ? Bad News" day in the
world of music,

On this day; Elvis died.

Also, but several years previous; John BRUNTLETT ('54) was born.

Make of those events what you will; at any rate, let's wish John a "Happy
Birthday!"

was so pleased to be able to view the memorial service for Tom HUNT ('60-RIP).
Even though I hardly knew anyone present, I did know a lot about Tom's
early years (we met in the 3rd grade) and the early years of his marriage
and fatherhood. At least we got to visit during a few reunions. I'm sorry
that so few of the "old neighborhood" on and around McMurray was able to
attend; I hope that they all watched it online as I did.

I am so looking forward to attending my 60 year HS Reunion in Richland,
Sept. 9-11. I will be rooming with Nada McCOY ('62) naturally. Told her it
will be like when we had slumber parties at Jan NELSON's sister's house in
Pasco when we were in high school.

I'm at my son's in Nevada playing endless games with my 7 year old
grandson and working all his puzzles. It is fun to see him.

There is a family wedding here this week, and my other son and family were
driving out from Indiana, and the 5 year old got china virus, so they are
driving back sans swimming pools and doing only drive throughs, trying to
socially quarantine as much as they can. Sadly they have my new shoes for
the wedding for my extra wide feet, so I have to go out shoe shopping in
the am (before it gets over 100° here.). It felt like 90° at the Reno
airport at midnight last night when our delayed plane finally made it.

Wish my son here lived closer, he and Warren are already happily into a
project; they seem to work well together and spur each other on to get it
done. As the older we get truly finishing something seems harder each
time.

But we are blessed to have another day at our ages.

Will be happy to get back to the Tri-Cities and Washington state after an
absence of Three years and china virus.

Looking forward to the Reunion.

Re: Doublewide Texas

Hiya!

So okay... we're doing a play at Richland Players.

	And it's funny.

Opens Sept 2nd and runs three weekends.

It's about a trailer park in Texas that this old grump is
trying to get run off his property.

And I play the old grump.

And, like I said, it's really funny.

Please come for one of the evening performances, because the only
matinee I'm doing is on the 18th, the last show.
Actually, I didn't say that right. The actor doing the matinees is quite
good too. So it's up to you.

	But...

He didn't go to Col-High with us, he wasn't a Bomber,
and he doesn't even know what SS is.

	I'm just saying..

Almost nothing makes me happier than to see the Sandstorm in green letters
in the morning! I decided to add something in the hopes that 4 other folks
will do the same. Hearing about Richlanders makes me so pleased,
especially the nostalgia of growing up in Richland. Hello to my fellow

My Transition From French Fries To Fresh Fruit.

As many Sandstorm alumni have written about through the years, growing up
in Richland in the late '40s, '50s, '60s, and beyond was not only a special
time for us kids, but a special time in history.

One of the most memorable memories was the evening family supper, when the
shift work schedule allowed the family to all be together. It didn't
seemed to matter what the main course was to be, the process was always
the same. Mom would turn on the GE electric range and place a old number
10 coffee can full of left over oil and bacon grease on the burner to
melt. This method of cooking added flavor and calories to fried chicken,
pork chops and an occasional round steak on payday. The added fat content
was fuel for us kids. As soon as we were excused from dinner and the
dishes were done, we were back outside on our bikes or playing with the
neighborhood kids.

It seemed like as we hit our late teens and into adulthood, the fast food
generation was upon us. For the next 50+ years there was never a shortage
of pizza, cheese burgers and chicken wings. For life on the go, fast food
was a quick alternative to taking the time to fix a more healthy option.
Last month the wheels fell off the wagon. An intense stomach pain was
diagnosed as Pancreatitis. At last my grease meter was maxed out and it
was time for a serious diet change. Throughout my life I've broken bones
in both feet, my wrist, had a torn meniscus, shingles, and most recently a
fractured hip from a bicycle incident. None of these events reached the
pain level of pancreatitis. Upon my discharge from the hospital, the
doctor gave me a short but stern lecture. "Get off the burgers and fried
food, your life depends on it!!!"

My days of pizza, burgers and deep fried chicken wings have come to a
close. The transition from french fries to fresh fruit has begun.
