Now for the real reason for this entry: It's Carl VOLMER's ('54) birthday. I think a chorus or two of "Happy Birthday!" will suffice. SENT: 9/13/22 That time of year has come when we wish Norma Myrick ('54 R.I.P.) a "Happy Birthday!" SENT: 9/14/22 Time to wish Bill and Forest (R.I.P.) {Goodenow} TERRY (both '54) a "Happy Birthday!" SENT: 9/17/22 Gotta take a moment to wish Larry BELT ('57) a "Happy Birthday!" If I don't his wife would do nasty things. -Bob Carlson, aka Mike CLOWES ('54) ~ Mount Angel, OR transmitting from Mount Angel, OR, but soon to be from Silverton, OR ******************************************************** ******************************************************** >>From: Dwain MEFFORD ('56) SENT: 9/6/22 Last Friday I was driving to Richland to attend my 65 year reunion which was delayed from last year. At 11AM Paul WEBSTER ('54) called to tell me that Larry HARROLD ('56-RIP) had died a few hours earlier. We knew that he was very sick and wasn't seeing visitors. Paul and I were determined to find a way to see him but that was not to be. Last year even though Club 40 was cancelled Paul and I went to Richland anyway. On Saturday of that weekend we spent several hours with Larry and Lois WEYERTS Harrold ('56). It was great fun for all of us. On Saturday Lois came to our Class of '56 brunch as well as the dinner that evening. She sat at a table with me and Paul and Harvey CHAPMAN and others. I am not sure but I think she sat there because that is where Larry might have sat. She was wonderful and we told many stories from our youth and beyond. If the class of '56 had a vote on who was the best liked it would be very close on who would come in second but Larry would easily be the winner. http://alumnisandstorm.com/Xtra/Mef/220131-Friends-32Ford.jpg -Dwain MEFFORD ('56) ******************************************************** ******************************************************** >>From: Ray HALL ('57) SENT: 9/4/22 I want to thank club 40 for this special weekend of seeing and fellowshiping with various classes of Richland High School. My class of 1957 was well attended. We even had a luncheon on Saturday. One if our classmates Kenny ROBERTs had a birthday celebration. Happy birthday Kenny. It was a great time for all. We got to talk to other graduates of RHS. I was saddened to see so many have passed on but got to share valuable memories. Hope to have another club 40 next year. Thanks. -Ray HALL ('57) ******************************************************** ******************************************************** >>From: Tom VERELLEN ('60) SENT: 9/6/2/2 I have decided to follow the advice of Sam Cooke (NAB) and Write Myself A Letter. A short note to oneself so to speak. Lets talk about the weather. It has been a pretty nice summer here in near Lacey a little dry and only a few relatively hot days. On this side of the mountains the grass is brown in the summer and green in the winter. Go figure. I believe that the covering in my yard can be called grass or a lawn only in the loosest sense. It does have a fair amount of crab grass and a good bit of wide blade quack grass but mostly moss and a variety of weeds and yellow flowers. Still I continue to mow it and that makes it a lawn. So now it is almost time to retire the window ac units looking forward to a colorful autumn, a little football, standard time, all that stuff. Likewise for Bombers all over the world. Except the ones in the southern hemisphere (does daylight time shift the south in winter?) -Tom VERELLEN ('60) ******************************************************** ******************************************************** >>From: Pete BEAULIEU ('62) SENT: 9/1/22 To: Marilyn "Em" DeVINE ('52) and Rex HUNT ('53) Thank you for your kind remarks. After all these years, now it's all worth it! To: Kathy RATHVON ('63) My posting and that of Rex HUNT ('53): perhaps cultural rather than "political," as from before the current Ice Age when everything (!) had not yet been politicized. Actually, in line with your thinking, I really did wonder whether Commandant Maren would draw the line, or not. But, she's one discerning lady, and I made the cut. To: Steve CARSON ('58) Pessimist: The glass is half empty. Optimist: The glass is half full. Realist: What glass? -Pete BEAULIEU ('62) ~ Shoreline, WA, can't figure out why we have so many backyard bunnies this year, alongside so many coyotes also back in town. Saw two coyote cubs barely arm's length away in a blackberry patch only a week ago. The buzz is that hot weather drives the mountain lions to lower elevations, and that the coyotes are then displaced into the burbs... and that cottontails have a gestation period of 30 days ******************************************************** ******************************************************** >>From: Linda REINING ('64) SENT: 8/31/22 not sure when this will appear, but this getting older sure ain't for the faint of heart. I have now been diagnosed with A-Fib, so another heart medication has been added to my regimen of Coreg that I take for congestive heart failure. On the good news, I no longer have to take blood pressure medication, since I've been able, through diet, to control my blood pressure and keep it in a therapeutic range---being on a low glycemic index diet is responsible for this success. My heart doctor is a great believer of the glycemic index diet and does not suggest Keto at all, for anyone who is a senior with heart problems. This part of Idaho (Boise area) is still having triple digit temperatures and they are advising that those with health issues, the very young and the elderly avoid being outside, as much as possible. Not a problem for me, since I "don't like it hot". Am thinking that by the time this appears, the Class of '64 should have celebrated their 75th Birthday Party, in Richland. "Party on, Bombers". Was nice to see another entry from Rex HUNT ('53)... glad you're still "alive and kicking". *grin* take care, friend. -Linda REINING ('64) ~ Kuna, Idaho ******************************************************** ******************************************************** >>From: Jim HEIDLEBAUGH ('65) SENT: 9/19/22 A BIG THANK YOU! to GREGOR, and the SELECT GANG of elves that put together the class of '65's 57 year reunion gig. Great fun! and Great smiles! Regards, -Jim HEIDLEBAUGH ('65) ******************************************************** ******************************************************** >>From: Karen ROW Rhodes (66_) SENT: 8/31/22 I've just had a fabulous weekend in Richland attending the 55 + 1 (because of china virus) RHS reunion for the very first time and I'm NAB - Not A Bomber. I was not a Richland HS graduate. I was born at Kadlec in 1948, attended Lewis & Clark (grades K-4); attended Spalding (grades 5 & 6); then attended Carmichael Jr High for 7th and 8th before moving to Fremont, California for high school. In spirit I'm totally a Richlander. My roots here are deep... both sets of grandparents migrated to Richland and both of my parents graduated from Col-High, RHS in the late '40s. Last weekend I came for the reunion and met classmates, FRIENDS, from Kindergarten-8th grade. I can't tell you what a special weekend it was reconnecting with people I haven't seen or talked to in 60 years or more. A big thank you to Shirley COLLINGS Haskins, Donna THORSON Whiteside and Jonathan LINDBERG for all you did to put this reunion together. I know there are others & and I thank you, too. The extra push was a call from Dick STEPHENS that convinced me to make the trip home even though my wonderful friend, Lesley WOOD Nelson wasn't able to make it due to family commitments. What a special, magical weekend. I can hardly wait for the next one. -Karen ROW Rhodes (66 NAB) Sent from my iPhone ******************************************************** ******************************************************** >>From: Tedd CADD ('66) SENT: 9/4/22 I have two WSU Yearbooks (1967 and 1968) for shipping cost to any interested party. -Tedd CADD ('66) ******************************************************** ******************************************************** >>From: Julie SMYTH Moss ('69_) Sent:9/7/22 Hi Maren, When you get moved in to your new place are you going to be able to publish every day??
