Re: My rescue by young Bombers

It was a rescue from death, I fell in an upstairs bedroom and lay unconscious.
When I didn't answer phone calls, niece Brenda Stull from Spokane and Robert
Stull drove to my rescue. Robert had his ladder, and he kicked down the door. I
was on the floor, dehydrated and unconscious.

I'm in
Richland Rehab Center, Room 313
44 Goethals Drive
Richland, WA 99352.

Email or visit if you like. I am treated very well here.

Bomber cheers,
-Norma LOESCHER Boswell ('53) ~ Richland

Re: A whole lot of noise signifying nothing. (political comment deleted)

Well I have not gained a lot on my Diarrhea, well into its 4th month. Cause is
still unknown! Changed my medication was not the solution..

Rex Hunt ('53wb) From Quaint outdated Hanford, Calif. Where Time flies like
arrows and fruit flies like bananas.

I slipped and fell a few weeks ago: Hurt my hip and made it difficult
to walk any distance. So I took to a bicycle to get around.
On Thursday mornings, a group of us old timers meet at Denny's for
coffee and insults. Father Delahey is one of the group. The discussion came
around to thief, and I pitched right in, Declaring to all asunder, that I
despised thievery. That someone had stolen my bike and I was damn angry about
it. Father Delahey jumped right in and said, Well Rex, perhaps you can do us
both a favor! Next Monday evening at the "CYO" (Catholic Youth Organization)
you could speak to all the boys who come to play basketball. You could talk on
the 10 Commandments, and stress THOU SHALT NOT STEAL! You would have a captive
audience. It won't hurt and may help! Well I am given to speechifying so I
quickly agreed. Figuring if nothing else,I could vent some steam!
Monday came and I was well prepared to ring the rafters.
I gave my little talk and Father Delahey said "Thank you Rex, but I was
a bit disappointed that you really did not plow much ground regarding thief"
"Well Father, I was going to really get after it. Expounding on the 10
Commandments. I came to Thou Shalt Not Commit Adulatory, I remembered where I
left my Bicycle."

Wow!!! so many of you are extra loud with your silence! I have to assume it is
because you just don't care! because I am sure some of you are paralyzed at the
wrist and can thumb in a few words if for no other reason than to make Maren
work. So get off your dead buttocks and put some life in your gluteus maximus!
You have come to the party, so peel yourself off the wall and dance!

Rex Hunt ('53wb) from windy downtown Hanford, CA where last weeks rain & wind
storm took down my back yard fence! Cost to replace fence $2380.00 My home
owners Insurance which I have payed for 31 years tells me they will only
pay $350.00 as the fence is old! so I guess if my house burns down, I
will owe them $3.67. Strange my coverage dropped but my premiums went
up! Insurance is just legalized robbery. Did you know you pay for the
dirt in home owners insurance but will receive zero for it if it sinks
in a sink hole? They charge for it but do not cover it! Any insurance
	agents wish to dispute that????

For 2/14: A Happy Valentines Day to any of you who wish to have one.

For something completely different; it's Bill GRIFFITH's ('54) birthday. Most
will say "Happy Birthday!" to him, but a die-hard few Colt '45s fans just might
say "Play Ball!"

date: 2/9/23

Today might have been special. You see it was Harold KENITZER's ('54 R.I.P.)
birthday. Just want to say we miss you.

I met Aileen Yoshioka in 1964 when I was a Baptist Student Union summer
missionary in Hawaii helping with vacation Bible schools and children's camps.
She took me sightseeing and to dinner at La Ronde, the second revolving
restaurant in the US. Watching the magnificent sunset over the Pacific Ocean
and the Honolulu city lights twinkling as darkness fell was a highlight of my
trip.

Back at Whitman College, I wrote Aileen a thank-you note. I mentioned missing
guava nectar. A week later I received a package ? a case of guava nectar. Once
a month I'd put on my aloha shirt, open a can, turn on "Hawaii Calls," and
remember my summer in Hawaii.

Naturally, I had to thank her for the gift, which began two years of
correspondence. Once in a while I wanted to hear her voice again. Station-to-
station long distance calls to Hawaii cost $10 for two minutes. I didn't relish
feeding $10 in quarters into a pay phone, so I mailed her a check for $30 to
pay for three collect calls.

To make sure she was home, I'd first call person-to-person ? no charges until
she came to the phone. If she wasn't home, whoever answered would say, "She
isn't here right now," and I'd try again later. If the person said, "She's not
here, but she'll be home soon," I knew she was home. I'd hang up and call
collect station-to-station, and Aileen would answer. I kept track of time and
hung up at two minutes.

As graduation time approached ? Whitman for me, the University of Hawaii for
her ? something happened that convinced me Aileen was the one. I dreamed about
her.

Only twice have I ever remembered a dream. The first was about Patty Bezzio
('63 RIP) in 1960, but that's another story. The second dream took place in an
underground cavern. Colored lights were strung along a pathway beside a stream.
In the semi-darkness we got separated. I searched for her frantically. When I
found her, I said, "Why did you get lost?" Then I thought about it and said,
"No. Why did I let you get lost?" The dream ended. The Bible related incidents
in which God communicated through dreams. Maybe this one was for me.

I called her to propose and asked her to marry me. It took seventeen seconds
for her to say, "Yes." We were married in Honolulu June 18, 1966. Her parents
and mine thought we were nuts, getting married when we didn't know each other.
We celebrated our 54th anniversary in Hawaii in 2020.

Our marriage ended December 12, 2022. I woke up and couldn't find her until I
turned on the overhead light and saw her lying next to the bed. She'd
apparently slipped and fallen face down. Unable to extricate herself, she
suffocated.

We were married over fifty-six years. We had our ups and downs, but one thing
kept us together: our love for each other.

What a welcome gift it was to find a Sandstorm in my mailbox!! Enjoyed watching
the short video about the Richland players latest play, which ended this past
weekend. I did see the one about trailers and double wides in Texas last
September when I was in Richland for the class of '62's 55 year reunion!! (I
enjoyed the play, but Terry DAVIS Knox ('65) wasn't in it that weekend.) And
it had been at least 3 years since I had been in Richland, and will be at least
that long before I make it again. (my brother, Roy CROSS ('65) who doesn't go
to Reunions moved from Kennewick to Wenatchee to be near his only grandkids).
So I no longer have close family in the area.

I laughed at Rex HUNT's ('53) story about getting the 2 black eyes. You live a
pretty interesting life, Rex -- staying in Hanford, CA with health issues.
Accolades to you for living life, not letting it pass you by.

And I am always amazed about Pete BEAULIEU's ('62) memory (Pete was one who
missed our 55 year reunion, I guess we didn't get into his heavy schedule in
time.) Who knew that was why Jim HOUSE ('63-RIP) lost the ASB presidency. (as
it was after I graduated and I was off to spend the year as an exchange student
in Holland. As soon as I graduated in June, 1962. (Pete probably remembers the
date, I don't for sure. Maybe the 4th?). Anyway, I didn't know till now that
Jim HOUSE lost that race.

again after being frozen over in our last streak of cold weather in SE Indiana.
