July 2023
Hello to Family and Friends!

Just a few words to update you on Rex and my activities. To start with, I
think Rex is a miracle in that he still uses his walker to get around in the
house and uses a wheelchair with big wheels to get around in church and
outside at our place. His body has adapted to what his heart can do, albeit
slowly.

When our four wonderful kids, or grandkids, come stay with us, they put Rex
in our SUV, along with his wheelchair, and we go to: coffee houses; tennis
courts to watch players; pickleball courts to watch tournaments; outdoor
music concerts; or restaurants to name a few places. He and I can go grocery
shopping by ourselves. Rex uses the motorized carts with baskets, so he can
maneuver through the aisles and find things he likes. Of course just outside
our house, in his mobile wheelchair, is special to him, also. We try to keep
him moving even though he likes to nap more. He does need some oxygen a few
times a day, also.

Rex and I celebrated our 70th wedding anniversary July 11. We had a party at
church and then a party at our house two days later for neighbors and our
famiiy in the area. Doesn't seem possible we are as old as we are and having
all these special events!

We watch weather reports and see where the hottest and wettest areas are in
the U.S. We are pretty dry here and not too hot for summer. Stay safe and
find joy!

We still like visitors and !!

Re: Recent Trip PicsdEv
	http://alumnisandstorm.com/Xtra/DeV/230723.00.htm

Here are some of the photos from our trip to New Market, Maryland to visit
my grandson Anthony TAYLOR, class of 2004. I don't know the sequence of the
photos, but one is of me with my daughter Janet (NAB) and Terry SHEGRUD,
class of "about" '55 on the plane from Pasco to Salt Lake City. Then there
is one of some of the animals on their Hobby Farm, the swimming pool, me
riding one of the horses and a sign on the main floor bathroom wall which I
think is hilarious and should be posted on the walls of every bathroom!

We arrived here on the 4th of July and leave tomorrow, the 11th. This has
been a very happy time!We have worked with the family doing chores such as
shoveling manure, sheep and goat droppings, carrying feed for the pigs,
checking for fresh eggs, checking water for all the other animals, pulling
weeds from the garden to give to the rabbits. I tried "socializing" 3
turkeys (one of which, London, my great grand-daughter will show at the
Fair) but the top of the pen was low and stooping over was too hard on my
back. She will also show a rabbit and a goat. She has ribbons from previous
years! Weather here has been very nice, although humid. We've had time in the
pool and enjoyed watching a storm go by. I've just been told the 3 kids are
in the pool so I'll close for now and join them!

Sending greetings to all you Bombers out there and hoping you are doing
well and enjoying life,

-Marilyn "Em" DeVINE ('52) ~ Richland

Re: Snarfenkratz mit der kritiskrimple!

Note the above! My daughter created and used these words as her personal
swear words. Her mother was sort of a prude and refused to allow a 7 year
old girl to swear in our house. I can tell you first hand she also made it
difficult on 33 year old guys too.

Now to business! 1st off I was censured out of the previous Sandstorm.
(Maryen claims it was because it was almost respecticleable) and she did not
recognize it as an entry from me!
[AND I've cut out the same thing from this entry, Rex!!! Maren]

Now while I may not be the most learned individual in the chicken coop! I am
sort of an expert on all things mechanical, mathematical, scientific,
medical, religious, physical, metaphysical, artistic, or a subject of your
choosing! Of course this is my wife's description of me as I would never
claim to being expert in all things. (unless given the chance!)

So I ask you WHY! why are men so smart they can design rockets to go to Mars
and so stupid they can't figure that while guns don't shoot people, it is
damn hard to shoot them without a gun! If you need a Bazooka to shoot a
rabbit, then you are not hunting for food!

If people are on welfare, there is most likely a need! Is a man more likely
to be called a bum for scrounging for beer cans to buy his needs than for
being a lazy ass politician that does less in a month than a can collector
does in a morning and has a life time salary way up there in the multi
thousands of dollars for life and can only guess at what the average man has
to do to earn his daily bread?

Just think about it once in a while!

Why is the world this way?
            Rex Hunt

tell me why so many are in need
yet the world is so full of greed!
We need to draw a line in the sand,
be shoulder to shoulder, making a stand!
Not so quick to turn our back,
when so many others need help, suffer a lack!
Why are so many trying to make this world a hell?
thwarting anything that might make it well!
You say it is not your problem, you didn't make it this way!
so why should you be the one to help, the one to pay?
you didn't scorch the earth, you didn't burn the land!
I think you don't see the problem, you just don't understand!
we can't consider us as various groups or a roving band!
It's time we paused to think: "what are our dues" make a plan!
We are one society, we are the community of man!

Re: http://alumnisandstorm.com/Xtra/Sor/230614-tag_00.htm

Hi, Don,

My brother, George MOORE ('67), brought to my attention your entry in the
June 15th Sandstorm. If you read that tag closely, it reads Carolyn Jo Moore
303 Cullum which was the house I grew up in. My dad worked at Hanford and
worked in that department. I would only be guessing as to why this tag has
my name on it, but maybe it was a practice tag because it takes some talent
(or practice) to control that engraving pen. It's cool that you collect such
memorabilia. Thanks for sharing and if you want to sell it to me, let me
know.

Great work! Sure brings a certain view of your life in Richland. Some things
can't be seen by others thru a persons art yet it does touch them but not as
personally to you.

Thanks for sharing, I'll have to search thru my archives of Hanford art
work.
