Not many words recently on Sandstorm. So, to address this sad deficiency,
yours truly feels moved by the adage that "a picture is worth a thousand
words." Here are some pictures of campuses interesting to the bipolar world
of Col-Hi, with pointy-headed/college-bound graduates heading mostly east to
Cougarville or west to Huskyville.

There, that's 8,000 words and now I'll sign out...

Except to say that the UW reactor building was demolished in 2016, the week
after this sketch, to make room for a new multi-story computer sciences
complex funded by some local rich guy. At first, the Seattle City Hall
bureaucracy complained about the loss of an historical heritage monument.
Yours truly did a letter or two noticing that the alternative site was the
nearby Columns (!)?regarded by retrogrades like myself as more qualified as
an historic treasure. Ionic columns and all, from the first building on the
UW campus (originally in downtown Seattle) and harkening back to the Golden
Era of Pericles' Acropolis in Athens.

So, our historical heritage? The disintegrating Western culture thing versus
the split-atom thing! The Columns still stand, and remain ranked among the
top 10 placid retreats areas for all U.S. campuses. Therefore, parties
aggrieved over loss of the 1960ish concrete wonder are free to take a
Greyhound bus to the Hanford B Reactor, or else add their own historic layer
of freeway graffiti anywhere in the Soviet of Seattle.

Don,

Thank you for your response. I live in Seattle and my brother George ('67)
lives in Lynnwood. We rarely get down to Richland anymore. If you want to
contact me at home my email is above.

Re: Coach Rex DAVIX ('49-RIP)

I need some help. As you all probably know by now, Coach Rex Davis passed
away October 10, 2023. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday,
November 11 at 1:00 at Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman.

I have been given the honor to say a few words about Rex's years in Richland
(~1945 to 1966). Rex was my gymnastic coach from 1962 to 1965 and touch my
life second only to my father. We have stayed in touch all these years. But
I really don't know much about his tennis coaching or what happened during
the early years of his gymnastic coaching. So I thought if I put out the
word, maybe some of you would share how he affected your life, maybe a short
story or two or some pictures. Please help me out. Thanks!

Re: Lane MERRYMAN ('63-RIP)

Lane was best man at my wedding. I learned too late that he had passed. I
wrote a reminisce for his widow but have been unable to locate her beyond
she is in assisted living in the tri cities. If you know her whereabouts
could I send the reminisce to you to forward? I will leave the letter open
so you can see it is not a scam. Cris Harmia, 545 88th Ave SW, Olympia,

A note of interest to pass along, the film Richland is being shown at Queens
Gate a bit later this month. You might be surprised how it turns out and I
think its worth look. Conversation is always a good thing.
