Irene Rose Peddicord - Funeral Notice

Irene, age 91, died August 20th, 2007 at Swedish Hospital in Seattle of a cerebral aneurysm.

She was born December 30th, 1915 on a homestead near Hingham, MT. She was the second daughter of Ray S. Rose and Olive Quirk Rose. The Rose family moved to Richland in 1927 where they established a produce trucking business.

Irene graduated from Richland High School in 1934. She was married to Edwin C. Peddicord, former Richland Postmaster in 1934. They were married 56 years and enjoyed their Richland life as it evolved from a farm community to a bustling nuclear facility. Irene worked as a postal clerk as the need for ready employees increased. As a couple they were very active in community affairs including the Young Democrats, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, Girl Scouts, 4-H, and Christ the King Church. Irene was a member of the Alter Society, the Retired Federal Employees Association, and the Richland Old Timers. Irene was an avid bridge player and belonged to several women’s bridge group.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harry Rose, her sister Eva Rose McLaughlin ('30) and her daughter Kathryn "Kassie" Peddicord McMahon ('55).

She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Peddicord Whitley ('53), son-in-law Lee Whitley ('52) of Renton, WA, her grandchildren Stewart Whitley, Stanley Whitley, Steven Whitley, Susanna Barnette, John McMahon, Jim McMahon, Gerald McMahon and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 5:00 PM, Friday evening, August 24th at Einan’s Funeral Home in Richland with a Rosary at 7:00 PM.

The funeral Mass will be Saturday, August 25th at Christ the King Catholic Church at 9:00 AM.

Contributions may be made to the Christ the King Building Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
