December 3, 1935 - January 17, 2014

Roberta Babcock - Jr. Portrait ~ Roberta Babcock - 1953 - Sr. Portrait

Roberta Babcock Myers died peacefully on January 17, 2014, in Richland. Roberta was born December 3, 1935, in Devils Lake, ND.

Her father, Claude Edward Babcock, worked on the railroad until he and his wife, Madge, started their moving company and ran it until the Great Depression. The family eventually moved to Prosser where they had a small cattle ranch while Claude worked as a carpenter at Hanford. They later moved to Richland where Roberta attended Spalding Elementary, then Carmichael Junior High. After graduating from Columbia High School in 1953, she attended Oregon State University. Roberta met and married Tommy Ray Meyers, and they started their family.

In her high school years she worked at Richland Dry Cleaning and then C.C. Anderson Department Store as a sales person. When her kids were old enough she went to work at Battelle (PNNL.) She later went back to Corvallis, OR to finish her degree at Oregon State. After retirement she became active in Kadlec Auxiliary and gardening. She was also an expert seamstress and even crafted her daughter, Nancee's, wedding gown.

Some of her greatest achievements include not only earning her bachelor's degree, but all of her kids earned at least a bachelor's degree as well.

We cherish our memories of her including her intelligence and humor, her love of family and her strength. She made friends easily. She was always good for an enjoyable conversation, and had a strong sense of right and wrong. She fought all of her illnesses through the years with an uncomplaining determination.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Tommy Ray Myers.

She is survived by daughter, Nancee Estes (Dan); sons, Gus Myers (Becky) and Ted Myers; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

She will be greatly missed.
