GARY KEITH WHITING ~ Class of 1955
February 18, 1937 - December 16, 2015

Gary Whiting - 1955 - Sr. Portrait ~~ Gary Whiting ~ recent

Gary passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on December 16, 2015, at the age of 78. He was born on February 18, 1937, in Spokane, the third of four children to Lloyd A. and Lillian O. Stene Whiting.

His father relocated the family to Richland in 1949 to work on the Hanford project and Gary attended school in Richland graduating from Columbia High School in 1955. He enlisted in the Navy soon after high school, spending 4 years abroad as a Seabee. He came home on leave to marry his childhood sweetheart, Sandra Fay Reninger in 1957 and began raising a family.

In 2003 he retired at Battelle, after working as a hot cell technician for 40 years. Retirement allowed him to focus more energy on the activities he enjoyed. Gary loved spending time with his children and his grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing and scouting with his friends and family; always having a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon at his side.

Gary will be remembered as a generous and loving father, grandfather, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Sandra ('56); parents, Lloyd and Lillian Whiting; sister, Doloris Hyde; and brother, Raymond "Bud" Whiting.

He is survived by his sister, Kathy Whiting Madsen ('65)(Kent); children: Chad ('77) Whiting (Robin), Guy ('79) Whiting and Heather ('87) Whiting Rader; five grandchildren: Logan, Jessica (Travis), Jordan, Mckenna, and Kirby; and four great grandchildren.

Memorial services were held on January 2, 2016, at Einan’s Events at Sunset.
